Continuous Ridge Vents

Continuous Ridge Ventilator Options for Smarter Steel Building Airflow Management

Optimize comfort and airflow inside your metal buildings with Metallic Products’ continuous ridge vents. Engineered to move fresh air through buildings of all sizes — while removing hot, stale and contaminated air — our continuous ridge ventilators offer year-round ventilation support. During warm summer months, they release heat naturally while keeping moisture under control. When winter temperatures strike, proper ventilation helps to manage condensation, keeping issues such as rust, mold, deteriorated insulation and product damage in check.

Our easy-to-install continuous ridge vents are customizable, available in colors and finishes to suit your aesthetic — and in a range of throat sizes to serve your unique ventilation needs. Get them with or without dampers, based on the amount of control your team needs over airflow.

For those in areas regularly impacted by high winds and extreme weather, we offer a continuous ridge vent featuring Florida product approval. This enhanced version of our popular product is designed to offer added protection and improved peace of mind. In addition, Metallic Products 12” and 9” continuous ridge vents have been evaluated and approved by the Texas Department of Insurance.

Continuous Ridge Vent FAQs

Get quick answers to common questions about continuous ridge vents, airflow performance and how they support healthier, more efficient steel building ventilation.

A:

A ridge vent, also known as a ridge ventilator, is installed along the peak of your roof, allowing warm, stale air to naturally rise and escape. As that air exits, it pulls in cooler, fresher air through intake points such as wall louvers, creating continuous airflow and improving overall steel building ventilation.

A:

Airflow varies based on vent throat size, building dimensions and environmental conditions. Continuous ridge vents are engineered to deliver consistent, high-volume airflow along the entire roofline, making them a reliable metal building vent solution for structures of all sizes. To determine the ideal size and number of ridge vents for your steel building project, we recommend consulting your accessories provider.

A:

No, continuous ridge vents operate using natural, or passive, ventilation. This means no electricity or mechanical components are required. However, they can work in tandem with powered metal building ventilation systems in situations where a hybrid approach is needed.

A:

Sizing a ridge vent for a commercial metal building depends on factors such as square footage, building use, desired air changes per hour (ACH or ACPH) and available intake airflow. The goal is to balance intake and exhaust to optimize air movement. ACH can be calculated by multiplying a space’s cubic feet per minute (CFM) times 60, then dividing it by the space’s volume (in cubic feet) — but that’s just part of the equation. Your accessories provider can use available data to determine exactly what your steel buildings need.

A:

Both are effective metal building vents, but they serve different needs. Continuous ridge vents provide even, consistent airflow across the entire roof peak, making them ideal for larger buildings or those requiring uniform ventilation. Turbine ventilators rely on wind to move air, which can be effective for smaller spaces but may deliver less consistent airflow.

A:

Yes! While no metal building accessory is 100% weatherproof, properly engineered ridge ventilators are designed to protect your structure while maintaining airflow. Features such as aerodynamic construction, internal baffles and drainage systems help prevent water intrusion from rain, snow and wind-driven moisture.

A:

In many cases, yes. Continuous ridge vents can help meet commercial building ventilation requirements when properly sized and paired with adequate intake airflow. Code compliance depends on a project’s location and design, so it’s always best to confirm with your engineer or local authority.
