Product Feature: The Commercial Roof Access Hatch

roof hatch, roof hatches, roof access hatch, roof access hatches, metal building accessories, metallic productsThe commercial roof access hatch is deceptively simple in both name and design. This metal building accessory is engineered to provide safe and simple access to rooftops and their accompanying components. And, although their safety benefits are especially apparent during winter months, when snow and ice increase the potential for falls, they are a handy addition year-round. Read on to learn the ins and outs of the commercial roof access hatch, and for insight into how to select the right one to suit your structure.

Size
The first step toward determining the right roof access hatch for your metal building is to think through why your business requires one. If your hatch is just meant to assist in maintenance of your metal roofing, you may only require a smaller hatch (ladder access, 2’6” X 3’0”). A medium-sized roof access hatch often works better for buildings where work requires use of larger tools and the like (ship stair access, 2’6” X 4’6”). Of course, for buildings that house larger equipment up top, a large hatch (service stair access, 2’6” X 8’0”) is likely your best bet.

Customization
While the standard options noted above are considered the most common, one size does not fit all. For this reason, commercial roof hatches are also available in custom sizes. To ensure that your order is the size needed, be careful to take detailed measurements of all items that need to fit through the hatch. In addition, you’ll want to take into consideration the placement of the hatch’s hardware, in order to ensure you have enough clearance for equipment to fit through. (If you have questions, a Metallic Products team member would be glad to walk you through the process.)

Material
The commercial roof access hatch is made of rugged 16-gauge Galvalume steel, constructed to withstand the harsh outdoor elements. It is welded watertight with a siliconized bronze wire that is non-corrosive and long lasting. Other added touches include a heat-infused electrostatic powder coat that can be ordered in a color to match the aesthetic of you metal building. (After all, looks might not be everything — but they do matter!)

Every metal building is unique, and so are its accessory needs. When it comes to selecting the right roof access hatch for the job, you’ll want to factor in considerations such as building codes, safety laws and the like.
